Sep 26 Updates / Time to Study

For the last week or so… I have been learning the language of computers…!

Here’s the situation:

I added 4 new photos and updated the design of the existing 10, giving me a grand total of 14 updated products.

Each product has 3 sizes, each size has 5 pictures, that is, 15 pictures per product listing.

In total, that means I have 210 pictures for these products (14x15=210).

Now, I have to resize and rename each and every picture and then move them to the correct folder.

Am I gonna do that for 210 pictures by hand?

Hell no.

So, I embarked on a quest to learn some python. My objective was to resize, rename, and move all the images correctly, and today I have achieved my quest objective!

It took me a solid week of constant studying, but I must say, it was pretty fun. Besides, I’ve always wanted to automate computer stuff, I’ve just never had anything to automate. But the day has finally come for me to be able to interact with my file system through lines of code, rather than through windows and buttons.

I have also learned that the automating doesn’t have to stop there. I can even send stuff to my website with a couple lines of code. I bet I can bulk edit products too. In a couple months, I will only log onto my shopify backend for the mere sentiment of nostalgia.

This is my next objective. To learn to interact with my shopify backend automatically and perform bulk tasks. I reckon it would be much faster, given that the shopify backend is somewhat slow to interact with.

And within this context, it’s actually sort of good news that my website doesn’t have any visitors yet, because right now all my product images are unsorted and unprocessed so they’re not showing up correctly. But, who’s gonna care? My 5 loyal daily visitors? I doubt it. Besides, it still looks okay, it’s just that the sizes don’t show correctly, when choosing a different sized canvas.

So yeah. On the surface, nothing changes, but under the surface, developments are brewing 😎

After all…

Big things have small beginnings…
